Palm Tree Seed Plantation

'Science is about knowing; Engineering is about implementing'.


On the occasion of Engineer's Day, 15th September 2019, ASCE SRM Student Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology conducted a mass palm tree seed plantation drive along the bunds of Potheri Lake in order to restore and maintain an ecological balance and to strengthen the newly constructed bund.


The event was marked by the presence of our esteemed Vice Chancellor
 Dr. Sandeep Sancheti along with Dr. M. Leenus Jesus Martin, Director (Campus Life),  Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus life) and Mr. S. Pradeep, Faculty Advisor, ASCE SRM Student Chapter. Faculty and students from various departments, ASCE SRM Alumni Members and also local people from Potheri region participated in the event.


Palm tree is one of the most versatile plants and it can be used in many forms in all its stages. Mr.Subash Tamilan and his team from Bharadhidasan Pasumai Arakkatallai, a government registered NGO which has actively participated for environmental causes explained about the benefits of palm tree and supported the members of ASCE SRM Student Chapter to collect and Sow palm seeds.


The team successfully sowed 3500 palm seeds on both sides of the bund. We at ASCE are committed to be socially responsible engineers and we strive to create a green and healthy environment to live in with peace and harmony.
