The Department of Civil Engineering, SRM University, Ramapuram Campus organized an International Conference “Advances in Civil Engineering and Chemistry of Innovative Materials on 13th & 14th March’14 (ACECIM’14).  The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, His Excellency Dr.K.Rossiah, Honourable governor of Tamil Nadu at 11:00 AM by lightening the Kuthu
vilaku and release of Proceedings.

The other dignitaries on the dias were Vice Chancellor, Registrar, SRM University, Director, Dean, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the Departments of Civil and Chemistry SRM University, Ramapuram Campus.  The guests of honour were Dr. Prabath Kumar, CMD Bhavani and Mr. K. V. Rangasamy. Larsen and Toubro.  Dr. N. Sethu Raman, Registrar of the University welcomed the dignitaries and delegates of the conference from India and abroad and all participants of the conference.
The insights of the conference were given by Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi, Head of Department Civil Engineering. About 250 selected papers will be presented in the next two days of the conference, said Dr.Madhavi and she also gave a brief insight to the entire conference schedule.
Dr. M. Ponnavaiko, Vice Chancellor in his address mentioned about the need of development of material through chemical process and hence justifying the relation between Civil Engineering and Chemistry and the importance of Chemistry in structure and materials.
Dr.Prabath Kumar, guest of honour talked to the delegates about development in infrastructure, Civil Engineering Materials and advances in Nuclear Power energy.The inaugural ceremony progressed with a special address by Mr. K. V. Rangasamy who stressed on the need to innovate and appreciated such conferences.
The Chief Guest, his Excellency Dr. K. Rossaiah, Governor Tamil Nadu released the conference proceedings and CD.  The Vice-Chancellor, SRM University received the first copy of the proceeding. His Excellency in his address discussed about the immediate requirements of innovations in Civil Engineering, the need for new Civil Engineers to raise the level of infrastructure in the country and the need of experienced Civil Engineers to step forward and coach the younger Engineers.  His Excellency’s speech was quite inspiring and insightful.
The inaugural ceremony drew to a close with the vote of thanks address by the Dr. Subbiah Bharathi, Dean, SRM University, Ramapuram followed by the National Anthem. The conference was very enlightening for the delegates and ended with the hope that the a spark is ignited in the minds of participants to step up and contribute to innovation.  The two day conference had plenary sessions by Toon Khaun Chan, University of Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Yee Loon Lee, UTHM, Malaysia, Dr. Paramasivam, University of Singapore, Dr. Rangasami, Mauritius and many more experts from various parts of India. After elaborate deliberations on various advanced topics for 2 complete days, the conference concluded with valedictory function in which 13 Best paper awards were given away by the Chief Guest Mr.Michael Carter, Commissioner and Consul, Australian Government. Dr.T.P.Ganesan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SRM University felicitated the function.
