SRM University Vice-Chancellor Dr M Ponnavaiko said from this year, the varsity would institute two awards for innovations, one for students and the other for research scholars.

He said 'Innovation Day' provides an opportunity for all students and research scholars to innovate. "Innovative ideas in Science and Technology were invited from the students of SRM and also other research institutions across the country,

Twenty students of the university came up with presentations of their innovative projects such as electricity generation through sound and antennas, 3D model of the SRM University, construction blocks made up of coconut husk and radical engines with automobile applications.

A panel of judges would review these presentations and top ten would be shortlisted for rewards. Dr V Bhujanga Rao, Chief Controller of Research and Development, Defence Research and Development, Ministry of Defence, who inaugurated the event, spoke on the importance of students coming out with innovation ideas with research.
