E-HACK, the largest information security awareness marathon, was held at the SRM University.Over 9,000 information security professionals and students participated in this world’s largest ever ethical hacking (E-Hack) marathon, which was an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records. “Create software for the mind than for the computers. Equilibrium thinking is one such, which teaches the art of self-management, with a mantra ‘be at it! beat it!’,” said ADGP Prateep Philip, who spoke at the event. According to a press release, with the motto of spreading Information Security awareness and presenting it as a career option, E-Hack has been conducting such events for the past three years. Registrations for the marathon started from July 1 and it exceeded 42,000 from 261 cities across the globe. E-HACK also attracted participants from countries like the United States, Philippines, Nepal, India, The Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Pakistan, Zambia, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Syrian Arab Republic, Nigeria, Thailand, Iran, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), Puerto Rico, Gabon, Egypt, Cameroon, United Kingdom, Iraq, Congo, Germany, Canada, Malawi, Albania, Morocco, Romania and Georgia, to be a part of it virtually, as the event was a live webcast. The record-breaking event featured a series of tech talks and webinars by experienced industry personalities and international speakers like Patrick Martinent from Australia, who represented Google, Prateep V Philip, ADGP, Tamil Nadu, Santosh Babu, the Commissioner of Indian Medicine, Santosh - Director of Symantec Corporations Engineering Division, Asia region, and Karthikeyan, an entrepreneur from the information security domain. E-Hack event also featured a ‘Capture The Flag’ game consisting of 50 levels, where participants cracked their way to the top through the night, which helped them understand the tricks used by cyber attackers and the techniques used by administrators to prevent them. There were short surprise events every three hours throughout the event, to keep the audience engaged.
