 SRMIST Conducts Potheri Lake Cleaning Drive Under the Swachh Bharat Mission

22 November 2025, Saturday – Kattankulathur

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) successfully organized a Potheri Lake Cleaning Drive on 22 November 2025 (Saturday) at 3:00 PM, as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The initiative focused on cleaning and rejuvenating the lake pathway adjacent to Potheri Lake, located near the opposite side of the SRM Arch Gate, with the aim of promoting a cleaner, healthier environment for the community.

Collective Effort for a Cleaner Campus

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff, who worked hand-in-hand to clean the entire stretch of the lake pathway. Their collective efforts led to the removal of approximately:

• 250 kg of trash
• 1350 kg of horticulture waste

This resulted in a remarkably cleaner and more inviting lake environment, benefiting both the campus community and daily commuters.

Acknowledging the Contributors

Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL) and Nodal Officer – Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, presented certificates to all volunteers and appreciated their commitment to environmental sustainability.

The success of the event was made possible through the coordinated support of several dedicated teams and staff members, including:

Their seamless coordination ensured the smooth execution of the cleaning drive.

Encouraging Civic Responsibility

Participants expressed pride in contributing to the cleanliness of their surroundings. Many shared that such initiatives motivate road users and the general public to avoid littering, while fostering a strong sense of community service and civic responsibility among students.

To ensure the safety and convenience of the volunteers, gloves and collection bags were provided, along with tea and snacks.

The Potheri Lake Cleaning Drive once again reaffirmed SRMIST’s unwavering dedication to environmental protection, civic awareness, and social responsibility.
