"Innovative ideas in Science and  Technology were invited from the students of SRM and also other research  institutions across the country,<br /><br />Twenty students of the university came  up with presentations of their innovative projects such as electricity  generation through sound and antennas, 3D model of the SRM University,  construction blocks made up of coconut husk and radical engines with  automobile applications.<br /><br />A panel of judges would review these presentations and top ten would be  shortlisted for rewards. Dr V Bhujanga Rao, Chief Controller of Research  and Development, Defence Research and Development, Ministry of Defence,  who inaugurated the event, spoke on the importance of students coming  out with innovation ideas with research.

with Chennai city police that the university has come across several 
fake websites, names of illegal agents, individuals and companies, all

People posing as agents of professional colleges cheat students of as
 much as Rs 100 crore every year by promising seats in various 
educational institutes, police revealed even as parents gear up to get 
their children admitted to engineering and medical courses.<br />

“My assumption is that innocent parents give away at least Rs100 
crore to fake agents. Last year alone, the proprietor of a professional 
college in the city repaid several parents more than Rs 8 crore that had
 been swindled by agents from parents promising admission for their 
children,” a police official who is familiar with such complaints told <i>Deccan Chronicle.</i></div>

SRM University has installed solar powered lights, solar
cooking system, Bio gas plant and a sewage treatment plant. From gardening to
cooking, only non-conventional sources of energy are now being used in the Kattankulathur
campus. The university has installed solar powered street lights, solar cooking
system, Bio gas plant and a water recycling plant. "The basic principle
is conversion of water into steam energy ie  converting  the solar energy into steam energy. The water
flows through the pipes and the solar dishes concentrate the solar energy to
the concentrators. In the concentrators the water is converted into steam and
that steam is utilized for cooking.</div>
