The 9th edition of SRM University’s cultural
festival, Milan 2016 will kick off on March 3, according to a press release.
At the inaugural function, actor John Abraham, who will be
the chief guest, will deliver a special address. The press release said that
the festival, which would take place on the campus of SRM University in
Kattankalathur and conclude on March 6, would feature a variety of events,
including 'International Air Show', 'Redbull bus tour', 'Standup Tamasha' and
'Choreonite Plus'.
According to the release, musician Devi Sri Prasad will
perform during the festival. From dance to drama and sports, students will be
competing for four days in various events for huge prizes.
hile the first day was reserved for the grand inauguration
of a mega annual event ‘Milan’16’ at SRM University, Kattankulathur, the second
day's programmes kept students a little more busy. The campus was abuzz with
activity on day 2 of ‘Milan’ with every inch and corner teeming with people.
Students charged with competitive fervour tried to participate in as many
events as possible.
National talent hunt show off
to rocking start

Milan ’16, the annual national-level cultural and sports
fest, where talents from colleges across India converge and compete, got off to
a bright start with a couple of events and a grand gala inauguration on
Thursday.
The 9th edition of ‘Milan '16 - Live The Change’ was
inaugurated by actor-producer and former model John Abraham, who inspired the
students with his words of advice in an inimitable style.
He began with a greeting - ‘Ellorukkkum Vanakkam’ - in
Tamil, who wanted the students to concentrate on their studies and decide on
the career thereafter. He reiterated that education was the strongest weapon
everyone should aspire for, disclosing that being an MBA in Marketing helped him
succeed in the film industry.The 43-year old actor parried questions, which
included ‘Do you have a girl friend,’ for which, he said, one should be beware
of the level of friendship and urged them to treat the partner as the best
friends.
The actor said that he was looking forward to the film
‘Rocky Handsome’ produced by him in which he is being co-starred by none other
than Shruti Haasan. The film is expected to hit the screens this month end, the
actor said.
SRM University Chancellor T.R. Paarivendhar said the
four-day fest served as a platform for student participants to exhibit their
talent.
Director-Student Affairs P.K.A. Muniswaran said that Milan
’16 has a number of events with participants from across the country.
SRM University Vice-Chancellor Prabir K Bagchi and Registrar
N. Sethuraman were among others who participated in the inaugural session.Started
in 2008, Milan has graduated to its 9th edition with innovative and creative
events. About 10,000 college students from all over India are expected to turn
up for the festival. Wednesday’s events included an air show by students and a
musical performance by ‘Thaikkudam Bridge’ from Kerala.

The morning started on a musical note with professional
level event, Battle of Bands, not much different from the professional
concerts. Where the Eastern bands captivated the audience with their rich
musical flair, the Western bands gave the spectators an astounding time. The
Eastern band winner was Athwa , while Vertigo bagged the championship among
Western bands.
It was a grand evening for ‘Madarassi Lassi’ and ‘Pyros’
teams, who enthralled the audience with their rollicking performance on stage.
Vertigo from Chennai, an Indian rock band, upped the audience's excitement
levels and the crowd burst into a loud cheer when the rock band took stage.
Aero-space engineering students relived their childhood
dreams along with Michael, an experienced operator of toy helicopter and
airplanes in Austria. A DJ Night, starring Ireland’s top female DJ Kaila Troy
was another landmark event for the day.
Narrating the tale of events that were part of the Milan’16,
the media convenor, Upasana Patnaik, says the Battle of Bands for college bands
was well received by student-admirers. Environment awareness programmes such as
Green Avengers gave the students an opportunity to present their thoughts in
bringing a change in global environment. In the evening slot, Evam's Stand up
Tamasha ensured laugh riots on campus.
“Presidential campaign by students, street play on themes of
universal importance, fashion show, Aero Modelling Championship, QR Hunt, were
the other events, that shook the auditorium,” says Anindya Ojha, media convenor
of the events.
Students' British Parliament saw a strong but worthy debate
on the rocking issue of ‘Refugee issues in Europe’, where students imitated
some of the world leaders presenting their views.
Introducing his movie ‘Aagam’, a movie based on job scam
market, director Vijay Anand Sriram said this was the result of an 8-year long
research in the field of human resource development. With Irfan, Deekshita,
Jayaprakash and Riyaz Khan in the lead roles, the film will hit the screens on
March 18.
From rock music to eco awareness programmes, the campus was
abuzz with activity.

The national level cultural and sports fest of SRM
University, Milan, kicked off with great aplomb in Chennai on March 3. With
John Abraham presiding over as the chief guest, the ninth edition of the
festival that has served as a platform for budding talent, saw several
youngsters taking to the stage to showcase their skills.
The auditorium of the SRM University was packed to the brim,
and the students received the actor with thundering applause. Amidst cheers, Dr
PKA Muniswaran (Director of DSA) delivered the opening address. He then went on
to express his gratitude towards students for their contribution in bringing
this day into fruition and stated how at the core of any successful cultural
fest are the people who work for it. Dr TR Parivendhar (Chancellor) also
expressed his happiness at the crowd's response to Milan.
John, who seemed impressed with the students' performances,
spoke in length about the importance of education. His speech was peppered with
several valuable life lessons for college students, and he stressed on the fact
that intelligence is the most attractive feature in a person and that a healthy
lifestyle is better than one wasted away on frivolous merrymaking. Later, in a
fun interactive session with the audience, he indulged his fans by not only
answering their enthusiastic questions, but also entertaining requests for
hugs. He even went on stage to congratulate all the performers and signed
several autographs.
Serious
debates and musical treat mark Day 3 at Milan’16

While a DJ Night,
starring Ireland’s top female DJ Kaila Troy, made an impact on students on
Friday night, it was Devi Sri Prasad, an Indian music composer, singer, and
director, who took centre stage at a late-evening show on Saturday at SRM University,
Kattankulathur.
The
music director was at his best presenting the super hits he had produced for
the screen at Milan 2016, the University's annual fest. The open air theatre
was choc-a-bloc with audience clapping and dancing all the time. There was the
ceaseless roaring of the crowd. The artist enraptured everyone with his
ebullient personality and power-packed performance. He indulged the crowd and
ensured they had fun. To sum it up, it was a day for music, knowledge-sharing
and skill exploring competitions.
Surrounded
by hair-raising rhythms set to stories that only the band members could tell,
the audience violently shook their heads . “There is an appeal in the rawness,
it all seems so divine,” said an ecstatic P. Prasad from Valliammai Engineering
College.
Aero-modelling
championship valedictory was the highlight of the morning. Ponraj Vellaichamy,
Technical Advisor to former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, spoke about the
ongoing work on the Tamil book, ‘Puyalai Thaandinal Thendral’ which explains
the vision he and Dr. Kalam had for Tamil Nadu. He awarded the A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 to Sanjay from P.S.G University.
Events
like the British Parliamentary Debate showcased a fierce battle which was a
reflection of how the British government is dealing with the migrant crisis and
whether Britain should remain in the European Union or not.
In
‘The Presidential Campaign’, participants were given extensive details about
the state of Genova, a country in need of a new leader to take it out of its
present peril. Raghav Anand from VIT Vellore and Hariharan from SRM were
adjudged winner and runners up respectively.
Theatre
The
ever so theatrical dramatics domain began the day with Broadway. The first
prize was won by New College, which performed a classical mime and the second
prize by Crescent Engineering College which performed a shadow play consisting
of a melange of neon lights and mime.The ever exciting choreo night took place
and a total of 15 teams flaunted their dance skills on stage. .
Deadpool, Ironman,
Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones. You name it and they had it. The
Environment Domain set up their hand made bookmarks stall in Java Green, with
funds from the proceedings going towards the cleaning of the area near the back
gate of SRM.
Sports
domain had several players. It wasn’t just the buildings on campus that were
abuzz with activities, the paths in the varsity too were vibrant with the
Creative and Arts domain conducting their event ‘Road Graffiti’ based on the
theme ‘Violence Against Women’.
