SRM group of Institutions, under
the patronage of its Founder Chancellor and Perambalur MP <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">           </span>Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar today
distributed 1000 packets of relief materials<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> 
</span>containing rice, wheat, dhal and other groceries worth Rs.5 lakhs to the
needy people of its 8 UBA adopted villages through the Chengalpattu district
administration. </div>

In an event held at the District Collector's office today
(27 April 2020), District collector, Mr. John Louis IAS, in the presence of
Ms.Priya, DRO, Project director Rural development Mr. Sridhar inaugurated the
token distribution for 30 households of Anjur village. The event was attended
by, Deputy director Rural development <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Mr. Senthil Kumar , Mr. Selvam,
RDO/Chengalpattu, Director of Hotel Management of SRM Dr. Antony Ashok Kumar
and SRMIST's Associate Director (Campus Life) & UBA nodal officer Dr. V.
Thirumurugan.</div>

SRMIST celebrated National Science Day 2020 at Orathur Panchayat Union Middle

song by students. Ms.S.Kavitha, Head master of school has formally welcomed the
chief guests Ms. Balamani, BEO of Kattankulathur, Mr. Subash, Head of the
village and Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer of UBA SRMIST.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

inaugural address she emphasized the importance of celebrating Science day and
she encouraged students to develop their innovative skills in science and
technologies. She motivated students to take Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, former
President of India as their role model to become a great scientist like him in

address he said, SRMIST is one of the very well known higher education
institution in the country and we are active and interest in participating in
events like this. He said SRMIST will always continue their work in development

innovations of students. By observing all hard work with different ideas of
students judges categorized first, second and third position of participants.
Then we conducted drawing and essay competition among interested students based
on the theme “Science Day”. Among the best we categorized participants into
first, second and third positions.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="s4" style="font-size: 11px; line-height: 13.199999809265137px;">Their project adopted bio-reinforcement techniques to control soil erosion on bench terraces and irrigation channels. The shoulder bunds and risers of the bench terraces are severely endangered by soil erosion, so the bench terraces and bunds of the irrigation channels were bio-stabilized by planting Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) densely. To ensure the results scientifically, the specialized In-situ jet erosion test apparatus has been designed and fabricated for conducting erodability test in the field itself. By conducting In-situ jet erosion test periodically at several bio-reinforced sites, it was found that the control of soil erosion by Vetiver bio-reinforcement is increased b</span><span class="s4" style="font-size: 11px; line-height: 13.199999809265137px;">y 56% in six months and the </span><span class="s4" style="font-size: 11px; line-height: 13.199999809265137px;">strength increase was found to be 62% comparatively with the unreinforced soil. This technique will facilitate the farmers in maintaining bench terraces without any financial hurdles.</span></div>

Chancellor said that the Unnat Bharat happens only at the root level and
village level. “If the backbone is in healthy condition, the body will prosper,
likewise the villages are in healthy condition, the country will prosper” he
added in his presidential address. And also he mentioned that the village is
not a place to visit and conduct one day cleaning and blood donation camp. This
is the place where the technical community should act progressively and
continuously. UBA and SRMIST are acting in the development of the villages in
progressive manner. “We are able to do what we intend to do” said the Vice

Collector elaborated the challenges faced by the district administration in
sanitation especially in safe disposal of solid waste from rural areas in his
inaugural address. And also he said that there is a large division between
rural students and urban students in concerned with the competitive
examinations, this has to be minimized. “Urban migration can be stopped by
creating opportunities for livelihood of village people, which will help them to

the ‘Application of IT in rural education’. Prof. Devendra Jalihal, IIT Madras,
has given the talk on ‘A case for technological intervention in sustainable

development areas’. Mr. Suresh Mariaselvam, Independent Community Development
Consultant, Chennai, has updated the participants in his talk on ‘Community
based techno-social initiatives for development’. Women empowerment in villages
has been discussed by Mr. P. Selvarajan, Additional CEO, Tamil Nadu State

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">“Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, deep learning,
and big data are the future. Although India is gifted with many first, we will
have to adapt to the transformations in these fields. This is an opportunity
for students at SRMIST to make a change in technology, health care and so
on. Although we have the best doctor-patient ration, our infant mortality and
mortality rates are still high. Our health care quincunx is something that needs
urgent attention. Quality and patient safety is the universal language that is
echoing attention. Many of the students should carry this torch as the absence
of patient safety means the absence of preventable harm happening in
health care. Our aim should be to bring down the mortality rate to an
acceptable minimum. Apart from prevention, you should also learn from errors
and teamwork.” <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">“Man-to-man, machine-to-man and machine-to-machine
interfaces must work for patient safety. Unsafe care can be labeled as a disease.
This is one of the top 10 causes of death. More than half of these causes are
preventable. Of this, one third leads to disability and even death. Diagnostic
errors also add to this. So whatever profession you are taking, your aim should
be to minimize errors,” said senior healthcare professional. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Echoing on the same line, Dr. Damodar Acharya, Former-Chairman,
AICTE, New Delhi, and Former Director IIT Kharagpur, who was the guest of
honour said, “Technology is fast changing. There is a sea of change in it every
day and it is important to be able to cope up with it. Organ replacing and drug
developing are some of the most growing sectors. It is important for students
to grow in these areas to be competent. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">“Be open to new businesses and solving problems. The need of
the customers are changing and this is paving the way to new problems. We are
now in an era of personalised manufacturing which is overtaking mass
production. Soon the stores of today may become a thing of the past. Smart
mobility, smart city, smart health care, and smart mobility will soon be a
reality. Physical work will reduce and this will lead to a major challenge.” <o:p></o:p></span></div>

According to a release, SRM defeated MG University 
25/20,25/20,25/21in the final to emerge as the winner. Hindustan 
Institute of Science and Technology and Mysore University bagged the 
third and fourth place respectively.<br />
By virtue of the win, SRM qualified for the All India Inter 
University Volleyball Women’s Championship to be held at Kurukhestra
