SRM MOU with Hannam University,South Korea

The SRM University and Hannam University, South Korea recently entered into a memorandum of understanding for exchange of students, scholars and faculties.<br /><br />“The five-year MoU, which is extendable on mutual consent, envisages the two universities to undertake joint research activities, participate in conferences and exchange academic information,” Hyungtae Kim, president, Hannam University, told reporters.<br /><br />The MoU was signed by Mr .Kim and N. Sethuraman, Registrar of SRM University.<br /><br />Under the student exchange programme, two engineering students will be chosen from the SRM University to do one semester at the Hannam University next year. The credits will be transferred to the SRM University. One student from the Hannam University will study the English and Journalism and Mass communication course for a year at the SRM University. Hannam University will also offer SRM students full scholarship

Some of the premier universities include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Birmingham City and Lancaster Universities in United Kingdom and La Trobe and University of Western Australia.<br /><br />On Wednesday, Bryan Dalton, Chief of Consular Services, US Consulate General, Chennai interacted with students at a programme in SRM University. He pointed out that among all the foreign students studying in the US, Indians were in a majority.<br /><br />There were 1.03 lakh students specialising in different streams, mostly in engineering and science and technology, in addition to the humanities and arts, in various universities.<br /><br />This number was bound to increase by 15 per cent now.<br /><br />The best minds<br /><br />He said that spending an entire semester would pit young minds against the best from various countries all over the world.<br /><br />“You should come out of your comfort zone,” he remarked.<br /><br />Later, in a brief chat with reporters, Mr. Dalton said the number of people submitting false documents and other records for obtaining a visa was a small minority.<br /><br />“I appeal to people to avoid touts and come straight to us with original documents, else they would permanently lose eligibility to visit the US,” he said.<br />Between October 2008 and September 2009, 1.96 lakh people had visited the US through the US Consul General, Chennai.<br />Sixth batch<br />A release said the 34 students were part of the sixth batch selected under the Semester Abroad Programme and the next batch of 45 students have been selected and would be leaving in January next year.

Aaruush'10 SRM University national level techno-management Festival

Intuition should be encouraged among students as it would help them come out with innovative ideas, said IIT Madras director Professor M S Ananth on Tuesday.<br /><br />Inaugurating Aaruush'10, a four-day national level techno-management festival, organised by SRM (Deemed) University, at Kattankulathur, Ananth said the concept had not taken root among the younger generation, especially students. "A combination of logic and intuition would help students not only succeed in their careers but also in life," he said.<br /><br />On the role of innovations, he said that unlike in other countries India was far behind in terms of the number of foreign students in universities and other educational institutions. The congregation of different minds from across the world would help get innovative ideas.<br /><br />SRM university vice-chancellor P Satyanarayanan said over 7,500 students from across the country were expected.
