and Chemistry of Innovative Materials on 13th & 14th March’14 
(ACECIM’14).  The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, His 
Excellency Dr.K.Rossiah, Honourable governor of Tamil Nadu at 11:00 AM

The other dignitaries on the dias were Vice Chancellor, Registrar, 
SRM University, Director, Dean, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the 
Departments of Civil and Chemistry SRM University, Ramapuram Campus.  
The guests of honour were Dr. Prabath Kumar, CMD Bhavani and Mr. K. V. 
Rangasamy. Larsen and Toubro.  Dr. N. Sethu Raman, Registrar of the 
University welcomed the dignitaries and delegates of the conference from
 India and abroad and all participants of the conference.<br />
The insights of the conference were given by Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi, Head 
of Department Civil Engineering. About 250 selected papers will be 
presented in the next two days of the conference, said Dr.Madhavi and 
she also gave a brief insight to the entire conference schedule.<br />
Dr. M. Ponnavaiko, Vice Chancellor in his address mentioned about 
the need of development of material through chemical process and hence 
justifying the relation between Civil Engineering and Chemistry and the 
importance of Chemistry in structure and materials.<br />
Dr.Prabath Kumar, guest of honour talked to the delegates about 
development in infrastructure, Civil Engineering Materials and advances 
in Nuclear Power energy.The inaugural ceremony progressed with a special
 address by Mr. K. V. Rangasamy who stressed on the need to innovate and
 appreciated such conferences.<br />
The Chief Guest, his Excellency Dr. K. Rossaiah, Governor Tamil Nadu
 released the conference proceedings and CD.  The Vice-Chancellor, SRM 
University received the first copy of the proceeding. His Excellency in 
his address discussed about the immediate requirements of innovations in
 Civil Engineering, the need for new Civil Engineers to raise the level 
of infrastructure in the country and the need of experienced Civil 
Engineers to step forward and coach the younger Engineers.  His 
Excellency’s speech was quite inspiring and insightful.<br />
The inaugural ceremony drew to a close with the vote of thanks 
address by the Dr. Subbiah Bharathi, Dean, SRM University, Ramapuram 
followed by the National Anthem. The conference was very enlightening 
for the delegates and ended with the hope that the a spark is ignited in
 the minds of participants to step up and contribute to innovation.  The
 two day conference had plenary sessions by Toon Khaun Chan, University 
of Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Yee Loon Lee, UTHM, Malaysia, Dr. 
Paramasivam, University of Singapore, Dr. Rangasami, Mauritius and many 
more experts from various parts of India. After elaborate deliberations 
on various advanced topics for 2 complete days, the conference concluded
 with valedictory function in which 13 Best paper awards were given away
 by the Chief Guest Mr.Michael Carter, Commissioner and Consul, 
Australian Government. Dr.T.P.Ganesan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SRM 
University felicitated the function.</div>

module will be tested on its reentry into the atmosphere, he told reporters on
the function's sidelines.He said the purpose of the mission is to do the
characterisation of the GSLV-Mark III in the atmospheric stage of the flight.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

The upper cryogenic stage will be passive," Radhakrishnan said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Radhakrishnan said the IRNSS-1B (Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System)

moved from Bangalore to the rocket port in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh March
3.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

 <span style="font-family: Calibri;">ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan on Friday urged students to
consider the benefits of a career in research in the space sector. Pointing to
ISRO as a place of international imminence in space applications, he pushed the
idea of students taking up a career at ISRO, given the multi-disciplinary and
pioneering opportunities it presents, apart from the benefit to the people of
the country.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Speaking at the Research Day celebrations at the SRM
University near Chennai, Radhakrishnan outlined the achievements and vision for
ISRO. He also asked the students of the University to strengthen their core
skills with an eye on a career of research in the space sector. “As young
engineers, it (space research) provides to you a platform where you can do
inter-disciplinary, frontline technology development. And, finally, the one
that will be used or will be useful for the people of the country. So, this is
a place you can put your engagements for good use and then you can think of
your career, take a decision on the opportunity provided by the space
technology and application for a country like India,” he said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Radhakrishnan heaped praise on SRM University for its
interest in space technology, citing the launch of the SRMSAT student satellite
in October 2011 aboard the PSLV-C18. The nanosatellite has completed 12,000
orbits around the Earth, and is tracked by students from a ground station on
the SRM campus.The varsity’s founder and chancellor, T R Pachamuthu, however
took on a different tack while speaking on the merits on a research career.
“Yes, we launched it. Yes, we have received praise for it. But, how long can we
keep talking about it? We need to keep doing something new in the field of
research. So, I ask you to consider placing greater interest in this area,” he
told the thousands of students gathered for the event.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Radhakrishnan and Pachamuthu handed over medals to the
winners of competitive abstract presentation held for the varsity’s students to
mark Research Day. The competition had seen the submission of over 600
abstracts from students, out of which about 500 had been shortlisted and

SRM University retained the SOA Premier League (SPL) title

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Last year's champions SRM University retained the SOA
Premier League (SPL) title defeating Ravenshaw University by six wickets in the
final of the tournament at the SOA University stadium here on Friday night.Continuing
their dominance, SRM restricted Ravenshaw to 136 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs
and then hit up the required runs losing four wickets in 15.2 overs.The run
chase was led by skipper S.Dinesh who hit an explosive 71 off 38 balls which
contained 7 fours and six sixes. Lokanath Das was the most successful Ravenshaw
bowler cliaming two wickets for 28 runs.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Since the variability of Indian Summer Monsoons was critical
to agriculture, water resources and economy of the country, he said that
understanding the variability of monsoon and prediction was vital for the
well-being of the population of India. “We have made significant progress in
improving the five-day forecast, the accuracy of which has been around 70-75
per cent,” he said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">‘’There was lot of media attention about Uttarakhand floods.
The specific forecast for Kedarnath, Badrinath, Joshimath, Gangotri and
Jamanotri was provided to all concerned before three days,’’ he pointed out.

Seychelles to send medical students to SRM University, Chennai

University. But now, we are in talks with private universities here to
accommodate more students from Seychelles,” M.S. Sai, honorary consul said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Chennai in particular, for its quality medical treatment. “Nearly 15 years ago,
we used to send our patients to Singapore and South Africa but over the past
many years, we have been sending our most difficult cases to India,” he said,
adding that though Seychelles had made medical treatment free for its citizens,
there was a shortage of specialists there. A medical board in the country, also
comprising international consultants, decided the patients to be sent outside
Seychelles for specialised medical care. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

convocation of SRM University near here. "My advice to you is create a
similar enterprise here. Create Microsoft here. Create an Apple. Create a

most unfortunate that even after 65 years of independence, we have not focused
on education. As a nation, we should focus not only on individual progress or

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">"What is lacking we have to identify and work upon
it." Knowledge is also the "most potent tool" to fight poverty,
he said, adding there was "no reason" why India should lag behind
other developed nations.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

there in every state of our country", he said. Pointing out that skill
development is the need of the hour, he said "if there is no skill, there
