But I am a high school dropout,” he said as the audience burst into peels of laughter and applause.<br />His father repeatedly exhorted him to take up studies and to pursue a Ph.D even while being an actor. “I told him that I will do Ph.D someday, but it has never come,” he said, adding that an actor could be an IAS officer or a doctorate too.<br />Mr. Kamal Hassan made it clear that students should complete their studies</div>

For the second year, the SRM University has given opportunity to college students across the country to exhibit their skills in their annual fest Milan 2009'. Friday, the beginning of a weekend marked the inauguration of Milan 2009'. In a jam-packed auditorium reverberating with the cat calls of students, cine star Kamal Hassan kicked off the two-day long festival. Amidst heavy applause from the students, Kamal Hassan, who came sporting a beard, addressed the students and encouraged them to enter and shine in the field of arts. "Educated youngsters should enter the field and show their talents. A cultural festival provides the apt stage to bring out the artist in the students. But it is also important that you earn your degree," he said. After his speech, he got down from the stage to enjoy a dance performance by four students. They performed kathak, odissi, bharatanatyam and mohini attam on the same platform to display unity of arts and the states of India. Students from over 60 colleges across the country will be participating in the event. Host of events including creative arts, dance, vocal music, fashion shows, face painting, rangoli, short-film making and photography will be open for students to compete. The fest comes to an end on Sunday. Addressing media representatives later, T R Pachamuthu, chancellor of SRM University, said that he was planning to start a film institute in the university. He said that latest technologies will be introduced to aid students learn the subject. Vice-chancellor of SRM University P Sathyanarayanan was also present on the occasion.
