drilled in the Laxmi Basin, Arabian Sea, in 2015 to get information about the
origin of the monsoon, said Dr Shailesh Nayak, secretary, Ministry of Earth

drilling a deep borehole that<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>is
expected to provide information about the origin of the monsoon as well as its
variability in the past,’’ he said.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Since the variability of Indian Summer Monsoons was critical
to agriculture, water resources and economy of the country, he said that
understanding the variability of monsoon and prediction was vital for the
well-being of the population of India. “We have made significant progress in
improving the five-day forecast, the accuracy of which has been around 70-75
per cent,” he said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">‘’There was lot of media attention about Uttarakhand floods.
The specific forecast for Kedarnath, Badrinath, Joshimath, Gangotri and
Jamanotri was provided to all concerned before three days,’’ he pointed out.

Seychelles to send medical students to SRM University, Chennai

steady stream of patients to Chennai for medical care, will also send its
students to universities here for medical education, said Danny Faure,
Vice-President, Republic of Seychelles, here on Monday.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

University. But now, we are in talks with private universities here to
accommodate more students from Seychelles,” M.S. Sai, honorary consul said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Mr. Faure said Seychelles has always looked up to India and
Chennai in particular, for its quality medical treatment. “Nearly 15 years ago,
we used to send our patients to Singapore and South Africa but over the past
many years, we have been sending our most difficult cases to India,” he said,
adding that though Seychelles had made medical treatment free for its citizens,
there was a shortage of specialists there. A medical board in the country, also
comprising international consultants, decided the patients to be sent outside
Seychelles for specialised medical care. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

convocation of SRM University near here. "My advice to you is create a

most unfortunate that even after 65 years of independence, we have not focused
on education. As a nation, we should focus not only on individual progress or

it." Knowledge is also the "most potent tool" to fight poverty,
he said, adding there was "no reason" why India should lag behind

there in every state of our country", he said. Pointing out that skill
development is the need of the hour, he said "if there is no skill, there
