The Centre for Performing and Fine Arts of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology hosted its maiden Navaratri Utsav 2018 the Dr. T.P. Ganesan Auditorium, Kattankulathur campus.


The stage was all set with a golu dolls and Day 1 of the event saw Jugalbandhi performance featuring Padma Bhushan and Grammy award winner Pandit Viswa Mohan Bhatt, an eminent classical musician of global repute. With him will be the Young Violin maestro, Ambi Subramaniam. Seen as the “New King” of Indian classical violin and India’s Itzhak Pearlmann, Ambi has performed across the globe.
Following the classical musical rendition came the ‘Trishakti- Dimensions of Devi,’ by renowned performers of Bharatanatyam,  Odissi  and Kathak . A former Director of the Kalakshatra Foundation, Priyadarshini Govind is the rarest of rare Bharatanatyam dancers. Sujata Mohapatra is a distinguished danseuse of Odissi. And Vidha Lal, a Guinness Record holder is a multi-faceted exponent of Kathak.
Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar, Chancellor, SRMIST, Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Vice Chancellor, Dr. N. Sethuraman, Registrar, Dr. R. Balasubramanian, Pro VC – External Affairs, Dr. Shobana Vignesh, Head CPFA graced the occasion with their presence. Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, the Chancellor SRMIST delivered the presidential address, he emphasized the importance of dance and fine arts as a course in a University. “My vision to dance and fine arts as a subject to students is now a reality with SRM Centre for Performing and Fine Arts. The motto of this department is to keep Indian cultures alive. There will be an exclusive academic building at SRM campus dedicated to Centre for Performing and Fine Arts very soon.”, he quoted.
