SRM University signs MoU with ISTE

The SRM University and the Indian  Society for Technical Education 
(ISTE) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for publishing 
five International Journals pertaining to Engineering streams.      The 
MoU was signed by ISTE President Dr R Murugesan  and SRM University 
Pro-Vice Chancellor T P Ganesan at  a function held in the city.      As
 per the MoU, SRM and ISTE would publish five  International Journals in
 Civil Engineering, Mechanical  Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and
 Communication  Engineering, Computer sciences and Basic Sciences.      
"Every Journal will have four issues a year and the first issue will be 
released during the ISTE's 42nd Annual Convention to be held in 
Hyderabad in December this year," Mr Murugesan and Mr Ganesan said.     
 Mr Murugesan said SRM would print 1250 copies of e to start with. 
"Depending on the subscriber base, the  number of copies will be scaled 
up," he added.      Both the Faculty and students of SRM, research 
scholars  and those from the Industry would contribute to the  journal.</div>

<h3>A Show of Speed and Design</h3>It was a show of speed and design when budding engineers of  India's leading colleges raced cars designed by themselves. However,  leaving behind more than 60 teams from across the country, F-1 racing  car prototype made by students of SRM University, Chennai, proved to be  the best on all criteria at a competitive event.<br />
The second edition of 'Maruti Suzuki supported Supra SAE 2012' at the  Buddh International Circuit in Noida saw participation of over 2000  young and enthusiastic engineering students. During the four-day event,  these cars underwent several rounds of dynamic and static evaluation  including brake test, skid-pad testing and acceleration testing. <br />
The teams who passed in these tests were then tested in the autocross  section, where they drove fast in a controlled manner to showcase the  manoeuvrability of the car. <br />
Once finished with the autocross section, the teams were given four  litres of petrol for two laps on the circuit. Over all, the cars were  tested on parameters like vehicle robustness, endurance, and safety.<br />
Pritam Reddy, captain of the winning team of 25, said, "We won  because we had finished designing the car four months before the event.  We utilised the time in testing our car on all criteria and  modifications. Last year, our car could not qualify the endurance test.  We worked day and night on that front throughout the year."<br />
Vishnu Prasad and Shidhartha Kumar of the team drove the car in the  event. The team includes students of electrical engineering, mechanical  engineering, automobile engineering, electronics and communication  engineering. While all the teams were asked to make some modification in  their cars, the one designed by his team was found impeccable. <br />
Cars designed by Sri Krishna Engineering team from Coimbatore and  Sinhgad Academy of Engineering from Pune, bagged the second and third  position respectively. After the winners were declared, I V Rao,  executive advisor, Maruti Suzuki India said,  "I am impressed with the  high quality of car prototypes created by the teams this year. <br />
Considering this was the first exposure for many of these students,  they have displayed exemplary knowledge and expertise in automotive  engineering. I am confident that this group of youngsters will play a  crucial role in the Indian automobile industry in the coming times of  high growth."<br />
The competition started with 63 teams making it to the first round of  static evaluation of which only 25 teams could make it to the final  round for dynamic testing on the Formula-1 tracks after stringent  technical inspections and scrutiny.<br />
"It is a dream come true. Participating and winning in such an event  will give us an edge. We already know how F-1 cars are designed, what is  team management and how automobile industry works," said Pritam, an  automobile engineer.</div>

The programme will feature 41 events, including a car and bike  exhibition, a tech expo and an air show, with some having interesting  names such as Yudamme and Blue-book.<br />
Welcoming the gathering, varsity vice-chancellor Dr M Ponnavaikko  detailed about the innovations and achievements of the university.<br />
Dr P Sivakumar, Director, CVRDE, Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, in  his keynote address, made a presentation on the innovations and  technical competence of the DRDO and CVRDE. He urged the student  community to take up research and join defence research establishments  to achieve their goals.<br />
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the function, Dr Ponnavaiko announced  that Dr V K Saraswat, Director General of DRDO and Chief Scientific  Advisor to the Defence Minister, will be conferred with a honorary  doctorate for his contributions in missile technology, during the  institution’s forthcoming convocation in October.<br />
A key feature of the event is an exhibition by DRDO showcasing the  defence and avionic advancements of the nation. Many university  officials, including pro vice-chancellor Dr P Ganesan, registrar Dr N  Sethuraman, and director (E&T) Dr C Muthamizhselvan were present.  Prizes worth Rs 15 lakh await the participants.<br />
Another event, ‘Rising in the Spirit of Innovation’, a national-level  techno-management festival organised in association with the Indian  Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Institute of Electricals and  Electronics Engineers (IEEE) at the varsity, will be on till September  8.</div>

Sweety  named the space vehicle she and her team designed in Marathi as Nav  Kshitij Vahak, a commercial earth-to-orbit passenger space vehicle. This  is the only team selected from India among 100 teams from 65  universities in the world. The team, led by Sweety, included Joel Alex  Roy, Anku Aravind, Jeevaraj Hejmady, Sarnavi Mahesh, Rajdeep Chowdhuri,  Ravikumar Shakya and Rishabh Bana. <br />

Sweety had earlier presented  two research papers at the International Conference of Mechanical and  Aerospace Engineering, Paris, which have been published in international  journals. <br />

She was awarded by NASA for her dolphin-shaped  eco-friendly aircraft working on less fuel, producing less noise, and  using very short runway for landing. </div></div><br />
