SRM Tamilperayam in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, New Delhi has
organized a two day seminar on ‘‘Recent Trends in South Indian Literature’’ on
06.02.2017 (Monday) and 07.02.2017 (Tuesday) at Dr. T.P. Ganesan Mini Hall – I.
A
two day seminar on ‘Recent Trends in
South Indian Literature’ began on 06.02.2017 today at 10.00 A.M. in SRM
University, Dr. T.P. Ganesan Mini Hall – I, Kattankulathur. At the Inaugural
session, Sahitya Akademi Secretary Dr. K. Srinivasa Rao welcomed the gathering.
Convener for Tamil Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi Dr. Ki. Nachimuthu,
introduce about the activities of Sahitya Akademi.
The
session was presided by Dr.N.Gopi, Convenor, Souther Regional Board of Sahitya
Akademi. Emenient Tamil writer Ashoka Mitran delivered keynote address. The
founder chancellor of SRM University Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar was the Chief Guest.
Felicitations were offered by Prof. Prahbir K. Bagchi , Vice-Chancellor, SRM
University and Dr. T.P. Ganesan, President of TamilPerayam & Pro-vice
Chancellor of SRM University, SRM Tamilperayam Secretary Prof. Karu.Nagarajan
delivered Vote of Thanks.
Chancellor told that,this memorable University which has been
functioning for the past 3 decades admirably attracts students from all parts
of India and foreign countries, since it offers qualitative education in almost
all disciplines under the faculties of Engineering, Management, Sciences and
Humanities and Medicine and Health Sciences besides providing the required
facilities for undertaking advanced research.
In
addition to the routine curriculam activities, we have established a Tamizh
Academy (Tamil Perayam), realizing our responsibility to spread the values of
Tamil language and culture around the world and to honour the Tamil scholars
and contributors for the growth of Tamil language.
The
‘Tamil Perayam’ honours eminent scholars, poets and creative writers with high
awards and provides various other services for promoting Tamil language. Each
year we give Thamizh Academy Awards with a cash amount of Rs.1.5 Lacs each to
the authors of the best Tamil books in 8 divisions like poetry, fiction, child
literature, science, fine arts, music, research, translation and literary work
by foreign Tamils. Moreover awards worth Rs.2 Lacs to the best Tamil Scholar
and Rs.5 Lacs to the lifetime achiever in Tamil are also given.
We have been giving these
awards for the past five years. From this year onwards we have added new awards
to the existing list. One of the new awards is for the best Tamil organizations
serving Tamil cause at international level, national level and state level.
Another new award is for the best Tamil journal serving the Tamil cause. Thus
the total number of awards turn to be 14 to the tune of Rs.22 lacs. I feel
proud in serving the cause of our mother tongue, in such a manner.
In addition to giving the
awards, Tamil Perayam is also engaged in other services like conducting diploma
courses in diaspora Tamil Teacher, Yoga, and rituals performance in mother
tongue, publishing books for popularizing the literary treasures of Tamil
Language.
Once again I want to reiterate
the wonderful services rendered by
Sahitya Akademi for the promotion and development of literature of various Indian languages which are appreciated and encouraged by the literates of India.

On this memorable occasion, I feel very happy
to participate in this seminar jointly organized by the Sahitiya Academy and
Tamilperayam for the first time. I want to convey my thanks to the authorities
of Sahitya Academy for providing a good opportunity to us to conduct this two
day seminar at this university. I hope the lectures to be delivered in these
two days by literary scholars will throw light on the modern trends in various
forms of literature of the South India languages viz., Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam
and Kannadam which have been identified as Dravidian languages by so many
foreign scholars like Dr Caldwell and others.
The
first session was about recent trends in South Indian fiction. The Chairperson
was Dr.C.Mirunalini, Telugu Literary Personality. Mr.R. Arul presented his
research article on Tamil Novel in the after noon session was on Recent Trends
South Indian Short Story the Chairperson was Tamil Writer A. Mangai. Papers on
this topics were presented by Sridhar Balagar (Cannda), Payipra Radhakrishnan
(Malayalam) & V. Ramakrishnan (Tamil)
On
07.02.2017 sessions will be on Recent Trends South Indian Poetry and literary
criticism a chairperson C. Naganna (Kanadam) for the poetry session. Dr.B.Ravi
Kumar (Tamil), T.P. Rajeevan (Malayalam) and S. Raghu (Telugu) will deliver the
research articles.
The
Chairperson for the session on literary criticism will be Rachapalem Chanderashekar
Reddy, Mr. M.S. Raghunath (Canada), V. Radhakrishnan (Malayalam) and Abhilash
Chandran (Tamil) will present the research articles. The valedictory session
will be chaired by Prof. Ki. Nachimuthu. Valedictory address will be by eminent
Tamil writer R.N.Joe De Cruz, S. Faustina Bama member, General Council will be
Chief Guest. Dr. N. Sethuraman, Registrar of the SRM University will felicitate
the function. Seminar Co-ordinator Prof. M.J.Rabi Singh is to give the Vote of
