has about 7,500 km coastline, endowed with rich of biodiversity, ecology and
economy. Every year thousand tons of waste reach into the coast and pollute the
environment. It needs to conserve and protect the coastal environment,
September 21, 2019 observed as International Coastal Cleanup day. The Swatchh
Bharat Abhiyan of Government of India aspires for cleaner India; under this
scheme, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Katankulathur organized
coastal cleanup program at Kovalam beach, Kanchipuram district supported by
National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), MoES, Government of India being
one of the responsible agencies for “coastal Clean Sea Campaign of UN and nodel
agency for Marine Litter Program” of South Asian Co-operative Environmental
program (SACEP). </span><br />

this program SRM students have been collected about1.2 tons waste which has
been segregated into bio degradable and non-biodegradable waste then they
handed over to Kovalam Panchayat for further recycling and proper disposal. </span></div>

towards Kovalam Bus Stop for creating public awareness to protect our

provided by the Faculty team with Students volunteers.</span></div>

A group of students in SRM University led by Sobin Santhosh,
final year student in the Aerospace department, has designed and implemented an
autonomous copter equipped with an automatic face and person recognition system
in a day. They have trained their intelligent software to detect a person
irrespective of his/her attire, face orientation, posture and/or background. In
their drill experiment of the rescue application, an onboard camera was mounted
on a quad-copter UAV where a live video was recorded. The video was fed to the
person identification software, developed on a MATLAB platform by Arijit Ray, a
final year student of SRM University in the Electrical and Electronics
Department. The software successfully detected the target person in an image
taken while the copter has hovering. Several images of the target individual
were taken in different postures, angles and backdrops to ensure that the
software has a robust accuracy. The GPS location of the snapshot image was also
transmitted to the ground station and it conformed exactly to the location at
which the snapshot was taken.Such an in-genuine application involving
autonomous copters enunciate the myriad scopes for further research and
development in the fields of smart security and surveillance. Rescue operations
that go on for days and even months can be completed in a matter of few hours
as copters can reach horizontal traversing speeds up to 5 m/s. Moreover,
autonomous copters can now be used as smart police surveillance aerial bots.
Latest research in image processing has made possible the detection of
activities in images. Such techniques can be further developed to be make more
robust under unrelenting conditions and then can be employed on copters for
smart detection of crime at weary hours of night when human surveillance is not
pragmatically possible.

demonstrations across India. There have also been two sexual assault-related
cases reported by female tourists. In the last three months, the number of

study by the New Delhi-based Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

SRM University -Muthucharam Community Radio  operating at the frequency of 90.4 MHz has now expanded its coverage area to 15-18 km radius including Chengalpet, Perungalathur,Padappai, Vandalur and some panchayats of Kundrathur block. “Interested students from any department can participate in programme production, Radio Jockey (open to -day scholars and hostelers) and Transmission Duty (preferably hostelers) where they can work in shifts. Students can conduct their own programs in English and Tamil.”said Ms. Divyasri, StationManager, Muthucharam CR.

Special programs are queued up for bus drivers of SRM University and Maintenance staff on health awareness and occupational hazards, Awareness program for Government High School girlstudents on child survival and safe motherhood.
