The economic equity “is the biggest challenge” for the country

<span style="font-size: large;">Rubbishing the notion of the “trickle down theory” and stressing that the poor must feel that they have a stake in a rising India, a prominent journalist maintained that economic equity “is the biggest challenge” for the country.

“You cannot be complacent about it”, said Mr. M.J. Akbar, Editorial Director of India Today, who was visiting the SRM University’s Kattankulathur Campus and addressed a group of students and faculty cutting across disciplines. The President of SRM University, the Vice Chancellor, the Pro Vice

<span style="font-size: large;">Modernity in India cannot be measured by air conditioners, the number of cars in the streets or fashionable tollways connecting cities; rather modernity has

four essential factors, that of democracy, secularism, gender equality and economic equity maintained Mr.Akbar.

Democracy meant equality surpassing such facets as color and creed and that the concept of a minority has to see the framework of empowerment,

Mr.Akbar said. Secularism is not the elimination of faith but in ensuring the co-existence of all faiths, the reputed scribe said. “ I cannot think of even one Hindu philosopher or writer who has been nasty against Prophet Mohammad and Vice Versa”, Mr.Akbar said adding that China may be a successful nation but not a modern nation.

Gender equality, Mr.Akbar said, had to go beyond looking at the fine lines of the laws laid or passed but in the implementation of one’s own thinking. Jawaharlal Nehru, by his own admission, saw his achievement in the passing of the Hindu Code Bill but acknowledged that his big failure was in not being able to provide Muslim women a similar Bill, Mr.Akbar pointed out. Mr.Akbar’s visit comes at

a time when a slew of media houses—India Today, Zee TV, DNA and Education Times (of The Times of India Group)—have ranked SRM University as India’s Number One Multiple Stream Private University. Mr.Akbar exhorted the faculty and students to rise and meet the challenges of modern India as everyone had a role to play.

“The poor must feel that they have a part of rising India… For India this is the biggest challenge”, Mr.Akbar said making a point that it was no longer valid to talk about economic equality but only of economic equity.

The concept behind the competition is that a fictional manufacturing company has contacted a design team to develop a small Formula style race car. The prototype is to be evaluated for its potential as a racing car. The target marketing group for the race car is the nonprofessional weekend autocross racer. Each team designs and produces a prototype based on well laid down rules & regulations. The competition comprises seven events: Cost and Manufacturing Analysis, Presentation, Design, Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross, and Endurance.

The Formula SAE competition is organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers and is held in UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria, Australia, Spain, Brasil.

In 2011, in SUPRA SAEINDIA competition, the team was ranked 2nd in Marketing Presentation and finished in 24th out of 40 team participating in the competition.<br />

as big as a microwave and named it Dosamatic and another one much bigger in
size mainly for making dosas in large quantities. He called his invention,
“dosa printer” which could line up dosas within a few seconds by just pressing

set up a company called Mukund Foods with the help of Indian Angel Network and
a friend with an intention to adapt food production in the domestic sector and

Push for a Scientiﬁc approach toward drug discovery in Indian traditional medicine : VC,SRM University

A seminar on good clinical practice “GCP” was conducted by Interdisciplinary School of Indian Systems of Medicine (ISISM) at SRM Medical College Hospital Seminar Hall. Basic objective of the seminar wasto educate and familiarize both clinical and basic researchers in GCP while simultaneously updating researchers associated with clinical drug trials. The seminar started of with the welcome address by Dr.K.Ilango, Dean, ISISM, SRM University, followed by the Inaugural address by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Medical), Dr. P.Thangaraj. Vice Chancellor Dr.M. Ponnavaikko presented the presidential address where he emphasized the effectiveness of traditional medicines in curing many ailments. He also strongly voiced the need for a professional and scientiﬁc approach towards drug discovery in the ﬁeld ofIndian traditional medicine

A presentation from Dr. K. Ilango, who highlighted the facilities available in the “one of a kind ” metabolic ward established in SRM hospital. Dr. Melvin George, Asst. Prof., Cardiac Research, SRM University, elaborated on the requirement for clinical research and its crucial role in validating therapeutic drugs. Mr. Harish Babu, SMO Connect, Cochin, the main speaker of the seminar gave a presentation on the title “International conference on Harmonization - GCP”. He touched upon several key issues pertaining to clinical research, including, the role of researcher / clinician, ethics and record keeping in drug trials. He specifically stressed the importance of exemplary record keeping, to avoid complications during and after completion of the drug trial.

SRM Click Hat Trick All India Inter University Chess Champions

Defending champion SRM University Winners in the All India inter university Chess Championship 2012 -2013 for the third time consecutively i.e. Hat trick Victory for SRM recently held at University of Calicut, from 3rd January 2013-5th January 2013. Totally 14 universities from all over India participated in that mega Championship and our university click the title for the third time.

SRM University Got 18 out of 20 points in the total 9 rounds, match point 10 out of 10.

December 2012 to 1st January,2013. Our varsity stood out from the rest beating Kannur University (4/0), Pondycherry University (3/1), M.G. University (4/0) and VT University(4/0) and several others.

In a total of 9 rounds, S.R.M.University scored 31 ½ out of 36 points (match point 18 out of 18) bagging the title of Defending Champions yet again. The top four winning colleges – SRM University,Osmania University, JNTU, University of Madras,get to participate in the All India Inter University Chess  Championship, at University of Calicut

SRM University -Muthucharam Community Radio operating at the frequency of 90.4 MHz

SRM University -Muthucharam Community Radio  operating at the frequency of 90.4 MHz has now expanded its coverage area to 15-18 km radius including Chengalpet, Perungalathur,Padappai, Vandalur and some panchayats of Kundrathur block. “Interested students from any department can participate in programme production, Radio Jockey (open to -day scholars and hostelers) and Transmission Duty (preferably hostelers) where they can work in shifts. Students can conduct their own programs in English and Tamil.”said Ms. Divyasri, StationManager, Muthucharam CR.

Special programs are queued up for bus drivers of SRM University and Maintenance staff on health awareness and occupational hazards, Awareness program for Government High School girlstudents on child survival and safe motherhood. Muthucharam Community Radio has also signed a MoU with the REACH foundation for producing programmes onTuberculosis.
