KATTANGULATHUR, October 2, 2024 – Solar Ambassador Workshop 2024, aimed at promoting solar energy and sustainability, was held at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Organized in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Energy Swaraj Foundation, the workshop empowered participants to become ambassadors of renewable energy in line with Mahatma Gandhi's principles of self-reliance and sustainability.



Dr. C. Muthamichelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, started the program by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the entrance of the university at 9 am. Following this, Dr. Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering reinforced the importance of cleanliness and sustainability. S. Led by Pradeep, the Swachhada Pledge was given.



At 10 am, the Suryashakti Dutuvar workshop started at Dr. D. P. Ganesan Hall. Participants registered for the workshop. The workshop started with candle lighting by the guest of the ceremony. Associate Director (Campus Life) Dr. V. Thirumurugan gave the welcome address. In his welcome speech he welcomed everyone and emphasized the important role renewable energy plays in creating a sustainable future.



























Vice-Chancellor Dr. C. Muthamichelvan, who delivered the keynote address, spoke about the advancements and future prospects of solar energy technologies. He highlighted SRMIST's commitment to fostering sustainability and the key role of renewable energy in creating a greener future. “By equipping students with the knowledge and skills, we empower them to become leaders in the renewable energy sector,” he said.

SRMIST Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy distributed solar instruments to the participants.

Dr. R. Sridhar delivered a lecture on the basics of electricity and solar energy. The introductory video by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki from Energy Swaraj Foundation further inspired the participants.

Lunch was served at the SRM Sannasi Hostel Mess, after which the participants engaged in a hands-on session where they were trained to install solar study lights in their designated classrooms. The trainers provided detailed instructions on safety measures, operational guidelines and solar lamp wiring, soldering and assembling.

At the end of the workshop, the participants proudly posed for photos with the solar lights they installed and shared their experiences. Dr. R. Senthil, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering delivered the vote of thanks.

The Solar Ambassador Workshop 2024 was a resounding success, deepening the participants' understanding of solar energy and reaffirming SRMIST's commitment to sustainability. By engaging students and faculty in practical training and discussions, SRMIST continues to foster a culture of innovation and environmental responsibility.

This initiative not only highlights the university's commitment to renewable energy, but also enables participants to be at the forefront of promoting solar energy within their communities.
