Institute of Science and Technology conducted a mass palm tree seed plantation
drive along the bunds of Potheri Lake in order to restore and maintain an
ecological balance and to strengthen the newly constructed bund.</span></div>

used in many forms in all its stages. Mr.Subash Tamilan and his team from
Bharadhidasan Pasumai Arakkatallai, a government registered NGO which has
actively participated for environmental causes explained about the benefits of
palm tree and supported the members of ASCE SRM Student Chapter to collect and
Sow palm seeds. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, (formerly SRM University) has been recently<br />
accredited with the highest grade A++ (A double plus) by NAAC (National Assessment and<br />
Accreditation Council). It is another feather to SRM’s cap as it prides over being awarded the<br />
highest ranking given to institutions. In the new accreditation process, about 70% weightage is<br />
assigned to quantitative metrics. The institution is called upon to upload the evidence which is<br />

Sciences and Teacher Education and certainly is one of the largestmulti-disciplinary universities<br />
in India to be assessed by the new methodology and accredited with the highest honors.<br />
SRMIST’s score of 3.55 on a 4.00 scale, makes it automatically eligible to be granted graded<br />
autonomy as Category I university as per the UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION<br />
[Categorization Of Universities (Only) for Grant of Graded Autonomy] Regulations, 2018. On<br />
becoming a Category I University, SRMIST shall be automatically deemed to be under section<br />
12B of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; it can also start off-campuses and increase<br />
internationalization.<br />
In October 2017, QS (Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd), UK based world renowned ranking agency<br />
has also rated SRMIST as a “4 Star” institute with “5 Star” ratings in specific categories of<br />
Teaching, Employability and Inclusiveness.<br />

In addition to the highest grade achieved by SRMIST in NAAC accreditation, which is<br />
institution based, it has international program based accreditations also to its credit. Five of its<br />
engineering programs offered at Kattankulathur campus have been accredited by commissions of<br />
ABET, USA (www.abet.org) and four by UK based IET (The Institutionof Engineering and<br />
Technology). Such international accreditations have resulted in close to 800 students from 64<br />
countries studying at SRMIST.<br />
Accreditation by NAAC with the highest grade is the culmination of many innovative measures<br />
benefitting the students and faculty alike resulting in an invigorating learning atmosphere.<br />
Adoption of IDEAL (Inter-Disciplinary Experiential Active Learning) curriculum with option to<br />
go for specialization at undergraduate level itself, implementation of FIIP ( Faculty Industry<br />
Immersion programme), scheduled interaction sessions with students by top management and<br />
performance linked incentive schemes for faculty are but a few of the measures which have<br />
instilled a sense of purpose among the teachers and the taught.<br />
Aside from the fact that all our professional programs are AICTE approved, rating agencies have<br />
had high praise for the Student Abroad Program, entrepreneurship as a project, alumni and<br />
student representatives in Board of Studies and Academic Council. SRMIST also prides of its<br />
tinkering labs, improvised grading schemes, young alumni award, participation in study India<br />
Initiative and College Board forum, both of which are designed to step up internationalization.<br />
National IP Award 2018 in the category of Top academic institution for Patents and<br />
Commercialization by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GoI adds on to the list of<br />
achievements of SRMIST. The establishment of NewGen IEDC (Innovation &amp; Entrepreneurship<br />
Development Cell) at SRM with a funding of 2.87 Crores by NSTEDB(National Science &amp;<br />

Institute of Science and Technology has successfully organized its 7th edition
of Research day to encourage the early career researchers of SRMIST on 1st of
March 2018. </div>
 A new research building has many sophisticated equipment to meet
the cutting edge transitional researches at SRMIST. It is a unique platform for
the young students to present their ideas in various research areas. Research
day, widely has encouraged students to contribute towards the society, to the
field of science and technology through conducting researches. During the

especially for the young researchers. Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar the Founder

Vice Chancellor - SRMIST, Prof. D. Narayana Rao, Director Research - SRMIST,
Prof. S.V. Kasmir Raja the Dean Research – SRMIST.</span></span> Nearly, 2700 students,
research scholars and faculty members from various departments including
Engineering, Basic sciences, Humanities, Medical and Health sciences, submitted
their abstracts, out of which 797 abstracts were selected after screening by
research committee to get presented. On the turn of large group of research
scholars, Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar emphasized that young researchers can
extensively contribute in the academic and industrial research.<br />

that young students if exposed to a research environment their new ideas may
form the basics of new innovations and contribute in the technological developments. Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan added “SRM Institute of Science and Technology has
attracted research faculty members with national and international experiences
for every department to enhance the research potential for the students and
help them to nurture their enthusiasm for research starting from the B.Tech
level.” Young students always try to think and do something new, which forms
the background of academic research said Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar. According to
him, Research day provides a platform for the students to present their ideas
and experience the research culture at an early age. <br />

The chief guest Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao said that educational institutes will

and support more research based interactions and also stated that he is glad to
be in this occasion of SRMIST opening a research center for students to excel.
The event concluded with the grand inauguration of the New Research Building at
SRMIST, Kattankulathur for the best future of research scholars by the
Chancellor along with the President, it was stated by one of the eminent people
that SRM family is proud and happy to extend their new initiative to other

to promote Tamil language and literature. It is functioning as a Fifth Tamil
Sangam. Every year 12 awards worth of amount of Rs. 22 lakhs are being given to
the authors of the best Tamil books in the following 12 fields. viz., Creative
Literature, Poetry, Child Literature, Translation, Science, Fine arts, Music
and Diaspora Tamil Creative Literature. In order to encourage the young generation
in Tamil Research, give young Tamil Researcher Award of Rs.1.5 lakhs in the
name of Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Three Awards are given for the best Tamil Forums
in Tamil Nadu, in other Indian states and in foreign country. The best journal
