<span style="font-size: large;">21st century English language learners come to classrooms with knowledge of places, languages, customs, and cultures. They come with optimism, energy, and unique perspectives of their own. Through interactions with teachers, classmates, and other learners they learn many things that enrich their lives and which enable them to face the increasingly diverse workplaces and communities. Today's learners will become valued members of tomorrow's global economy.

This International Conference is a platform to initiate discussion on learning styles and strategies and to evolve appropriate teaching materials and methods, classroom practices, and evaluation and hoping to find new avenues to meet the 21st century learners’ needs and demands. </span><br />

The English Language Teachers' Association of India (ELT@I) was founded on August 7, 1974 by the late Padmashri S. Natarajan, a noted Educationist. ELT@I is a forty-six year old voluntary non-profit organization established with the sole objective of professionalizing English language teaching starting from primary through secondary to tertiary levels. It has about 5000 members on its roll and 62 chapters in different parts of our country. The international conference conducted by ELT@I every year attracts over 1000 delegates from various parts of the country and abroad and has been acclaimed as an academically rewarding experience for the teachers, policy makers and administrators interested in improving the language skills </span><br />

3-member panel in place to appoint Anna University V-C

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">A three-member search committee has been constituted to
shortlist the next vice-chancellor (V-C) of the unified Anna University.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">All engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu will be affiliated to
the University. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The committee comprises former V-C of Tamil Nadu Dr.
Ambedkar Law University, S. Sachidhanandham. He is the chancellor’s nominee and
will be the convener of the committee. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The committee will also have retired IAS officer and former
V-C of Madurai Kamaraj University, K. Aludiyapillai, who is the State
government’s nominee, and <strong>director of faculty of science and humanities, SRM
 University, R. Balasubramanian, nominated by the syndicate nominee</strong>. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The committee has been asked to recommend three names to the
Governor for the appointment of the V-C. The post fell vacant after Mannar
Jawahar completed his term in June last year. The government then appointed a
three-member panel to take care of University affairs.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The merger of the Anna Universities of Technologies in
Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi and Tirunelveli took place last August.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

University, joined hands with the Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka
University, Japan, Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, New Zealand
and Asian Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Association, Japan to host the<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>three-day conferenc</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">G V Ramaraju, Head, Nanotechnology Initiative Division,
Department of Electronics and Infomation Technology, Govt. of India, released
the conference proceedings.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">“Nanotechnology is applicable in pharmaceuticals,
information technology, energy, biotechnology, textiles, consumer products,
water purification, sports, healthcare, security and environment. In the Indian
Nanotechnology User Programme (INUP), more than 100 projects from about 100
organisations across the country have been taken up so far. And, about 800
researchers from more than 200 organisations have been trained by INUP,’’ said
Ramaraju, in his special address.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Through nano-mission
programme, IIT-Madras developed a nanotechnology based water purification
technology and commercialised it, added Ramaraju.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"> The Department of Electronics & IT , as part of
Nanotechnology initiatives, have developed a bio-sensor platform for cardiac
diagnostics suitable for integration with a complete lab-on-chip development
and nano-particle based piezo- resistive polymer composite cantilevers for a
range of applications, focusing on the detection of explosive molecules such as
TNT/RDX,” said Ramaraju.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Soumyo Mukherji, Head, Centre for Research in Nanotechnology
and Sciences, IIT-Bombay, inaugurated the conference.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">M Ponnavaiko, vice-chancellor, SRM University and Yashurio
Hayakawa, RIE, Shizouka University, Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Around 400 Researchers and scientists from India, Singapore,
Germany, France, New Zealand, USA, Japan, Mexico, Ireland, Switzerland and

Counseling Procedure</h2>
The eligible candidates, chosen on the basis of rank, would be 
called for counseling for final admission. The physical presence of the 
candidate during the counseling is mandatory.<br />

   Counseling Procedure for Allocation of Seats/Branch</h3>
<ul>
<li>
    The date/time for counseling will be intimated to the candidates by 
post, through SMS and will also be published in our university website: <a class="clicklink" href="http://www.srmuniv.ac.in/node/6027#">www.srmuniv.ac.in</a></li>
<li>
    Change of date/time of counseling is generally not permissible. If a
 candidate does not personally appear before the Admission Committee for
 counseling/Interview on the date and time specified, his/her seat shall
 be offered to the next candidate in order of merit.</li>
<li>
    The selected candidates will have to remit the prescribed fees by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of <b>"SRMIST"</b>, payable at Chennai, on confirmation of the seat, and acceptance of the branch allotted.</li>
<li>
    The candidates should produce the following documents in original 
along with one set of photocopies while reporting for counseling. 
Candidates will not be allowed to participate in the counseling process 
without these documents.</li>

<span style="font-size: large;">The Congress-led UPA government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the Women’s Reservation Bill is passed in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jayanthi Natarajan said on Friday.

Addressing the International Women’s Day celebrations at the SRM University at Kattankulathur, she said the UPA government, under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, was committed to the passage of the Women’s Bill, providing for 33 per cent reservation in Parliament and State Legislatures. ‘

’The Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the Bill is passed in Lok Sabha,’’ she said and added that 10 million women have been doing exceptional work in local bodies across India, and that women knew how to govern the country.Recalling the gangrape death of a paramedical student in a moving bus in New Delhi, the Minister said: “The Centre has suggested setting up of a dedicated women’s helpline ‘181’ across the country to lodge complaints of violence against women.”

In a bid to reduce crimes against women, she also suggested an exclusive bus service for women, especially during the night, with adequate interior lighting and and provisions for operation between 7 pm and 7 am with women drivers. Calling for more women in the police force, Jayanthi Natarajan said of the total 16.6 lakh-strong police force, women constituted a mere 13.3 per cent (93,887). ‘’In the north-eastern State of Mizoram, there are no women police personnel at all, whereas in States like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, the number of women police personnel is more,’’ she said.  The Minister added that women were not the weaker sex, they were now working in various fields ranging from construction industry to space research.

M Ponnavaikko, Vice Chancellor, SRM University, in his presidential address, said that women were the backbone of society. Awards were given to women achievers from the lower strata. Earlier, N Chandraprabha, Director, Health Sciences, welcomed the gathering.

The Director presented a bouquet to the Chief Guest Mr.N.Shivakumar,Technical Lead, HCL Technologies, Chennai. The Dean of SRM University, Ramapuram presented a memento to the chief guest and he then released the proceedings.

The Director, SRM University, Ramapuram Campus presided over and he explained the importance of students’ participation in the symposium. Dr. K. Abdul Ghani, Dean, Ramapuram Campus felicitated the occasion and he stated the symposium is a good platform for the young IT aspirants to show case their talents in different fields of technology.

This was followed by felicitation address by the Dean of SRM University, Ramapuram and he stated that this is a platform for the young IT aspirants to show case their talents in different fields of technology. The Vice Principal also gave a felicitation address and stated that the TecBlaze 2013 is an opportunity for many students to work as a team and is a good exposure to the participants. The souvenir was also released during the inauguration ceremony. </span><br />
