 Zone Inter-University Volleyball Championship which was held at 
Kattankulathur from 6 to 10 December.

According to a release, SRM defeated MG University 
25/20,25/20,25/21in the final to emerge as the winner. Hindustan 
Institute of Science and Technology and Mysore University bagged the 
third and fourth place respectively.<br />
By virtue of the win, SRM qualified for the All India Inter 
University Volleyball Women’s Championship to be held at Kurukhestra 
University, Kurukhestra, Haryana,from 16 to 20 December<br />

Kattankulathur has received seven recognitions in a short span of 45 days. The
awards are of national and international importance and have added yet another
feather to its cap. This QS-IGauge Diamond rated institute has been the
recipient of STEM impact award, Green Metric Award, AICTE-CII IndPact Award for
Best Industry-linked institution for Electrical Engineering and Allied
Institute, University of the Year Award 2019 from FICCI and three Swachhata
ranking awards from AICTE. </span></div>

“This is a special honor for our Institution as we have received seven awards
in a short span of time.”</span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Dr. Sandeep Sancheti highlighted some of the recent
achievements of the institution, research works, patents received, research
centers, funded projects, own projects and technology transfers.</span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">“The Swachhata ranking awards were based on toilet adequacy
and maintenance, garbage clearance system, hostel kitchen hygiene &
sophistication of equipment, water purity, storage, distribution the facility,
campus greenery & rainwater harvesting, use of solar systems and villages
adopted for hygiene,” he said and added, “The STEM Impact award was given for
innovation. SRMIST is the only privately funded university to receive this
award. The award was presented on the basis of socio-economic relevance.”</span></div>

<b><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">STEM IMPACT AWARD</span></b><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"></span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">SRM Institute of Science and Technology won the STEM
(Society for Technology Management) Impact Award for innovating a
cost-effective, Microbial fuel cell for bioelectricity generation and heavy
metal reduction from environmentally available biowaste, namely tannery
effluents. SRMIST is the only privately funded university to receive this
award, others being IIT Kanpur and two CSIR labs. SRMIST had three in-house
technologies submission and Microbial Fuel Submission received the STEM Impact
Award. </span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">The award was presented on the basis of socio-economic
relevance, which includes bioelectricity generation and simultaneously heavy
metal reduction up to 99.7%, electricity generation through a renewable energy
source, zero water concept – Renewable, recycle and reuse and can be scaled up
to be a standalone power source and bioremediation sources.   </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 106%;">
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">This project was spearheaded by Dr. S Harinipriya, Associate
Professor of SRMIST and her students. This innovation has also been granted a
US patent (US 10,230,122 B2). A technology transfer is initiated and MoU has
been signed between Suprajaa Solutions Pvt. Limited, Tamilnadu.</span></div>

in GreenMetric World University Rankings and third in India. The award was
given for the category ‘World’s Most Sustainable University’. This was
organized by the University of Indonesia. About 780 universities participated
in the event globally and 25 Indian Universities and Institutions participated

for Electrical Engineering and Allied Institute (Established-Degree) was
awarded to SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. SRMIST won
the award for Best Industry Linked Technical Institute in India 2019 for
Electrical Engineering and Allied Institute. This year around 9,832 institutes
participated in the survey, out of which 39 Institutes were shortlisted for
final presentation and EEE department of SRMIST, Kattankulathur was one among
them. Dr. K. Vijayakumar, HOD / EEE, SRMIST gave the presentation for EEE
department and showcased the best practices of industry partnerships. </span></div>

categories and SRMIST competed under ‘University of the Year Award 2019’ since,
being a multi-stream university, it has many dimensions of excellence. The
process consists of submitting an exhaustive questionnaire highlighting how
SRMIST stands out in many facets of university life. These include Governance,
Curriculum & Pedagogy, Infrastructure, Faculty Development, Internationalization,

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">SRMIST ranked No. 1 under the category of AICTE-Residential
Universities in the third edition of Swachhata Ranking Award. The Ranking Award
was presented by MHRD as a part of its Swachh Bharat Mission to promote
environmental hygiene in the Higher Education system and beyond. SRMIST
excelled in the parameters of hygiene like student-toilet ratio, hostel
hygiene, water conservation, campus greenery, harnessing solar energy,
rainwater harvesting, waste segregation, and solid waste management.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 106%;">
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">SRMIST secured the third rank in AICTE’s Clean and Smart
Campus Awards. The process of ranking consists of assessing the institutes on
Impact of deployment of digital technology in order for the students, faculty and
management in the campus to reduce consumption of natural resources (such as
paper, gas, energy, etc) and alignment of the latest digital trends like IoT,
Big Data and Cloud Networking to achieve various aspects of sustainability in
the campus, specifically to contribute to United Nations’ SDGs.</span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">SRMIST also came first in the AICTE’s ‘One student One tree’
campaign, where 50,000 saplings were planted in 26 villages near Kattankulathur
and Kundrathur Panchayath. This initiative was done by students from NSS, NCC,
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Swachhata-hi Seva and student chapter for engineers

Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ addressed the 3rd Swachhata Ranking Award Function through video conferencing in New Delhi today. The3rd Swachhata Ranking Award process was undertaken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission of Government of India to promote environmental hygiene in the Higher Education System and beyond. On the basis of the reports of UGC and AICTE, 48 Universities and Institutions have been recommended for awards in various categories. He added that the higher education system is the best mechanism towards achieving success in Swacchh Bharat Mission through the powerful and influential base of 3 crore plus students and teachers in the country.</div>

He further said that the ranking system based on various parameters of hygiene like student-toilet ratio, hostel hygiene, hostel kitchen hygiene, availability of water, water conservation measures, campus greenery, administrative responsibility for hygiene etc. has been formulated by the Ministry to generate peer pressure amongst educational institutions to improve their level of campus hygiene and also take up off-campus hygiene activity in nearby villages/surrounding areas.<br />
The Minister expressed his happiness in informing that over the last three years, the response from institutions to the Swachhata Ranking process has been steadily growing. In 2017, 3200 institutions participated, in 2018, it was 6100 institutions and now in 2019, a total of 6900 institutions participated in the ranking exercise. Therefore, the need and awareness of maintaining Swachh Campuses and also voluntarily taking up village hygiene activity is now spreading across the Indian Higher Education system with active enthusiasm.</div>

He further informed that the Higher Education Institutions that participated in the ranking exercise have achieved ODF in 2091 villages and installed solid and liquid waste management facilities in 2216 villages. This contribution of the Higher Education System to environmental hygiene will keep on rising in the years ahead. Students are emerging as change agents in the field of Swachhata.</div>

He appreciated the Ministry’s effort to develop clean and green college campuses that would create healthy study environment for students thereby, stimulating their minds towards higher learning. The Ministry recognizes that it is essential to create an ambience for learning for the youth of our country who will play a big role in economic and social development of our great country.<br />
Shri Pokhriyal congratulated the winners in various categories of awards like Residential Universities, Non-residential Universities, Technical Universities, Residential Colleges, Government Universities, etc. The Minister hoped that the participating institutions in such a ranking exercise will grow year after year so that the crucial element of Swachhata is ingrained into the day-to-day activities of our educational community. He appealed that students and teachers should strive to achieve a zero tolerance towards anything unhygienic in our environment.</div>

The Minister was delighted to inform that MHRD has been providing knowledge inputs into the Swachhata Campaign launched in this country under the inspiring leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.He added that the Ministry has made careers and professions out of Swachhata by creating curriculum for a PG Diploma in Waste Management, Elective Course in Waste Management, MBA in Waste Management, Operations Manual for Swachh Campus, Jal Shakti Gram Manual, BBA in Rural Management and MBA in Rural Management. These set of courses which are being offered in many institutions in the country are field study oriented, internship oriented and the entire curriculum is industry driven.</div>

Kattankulathur on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
This was organized by SRMIST in association with IIT Bombay as part of the
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. The chief guest for the event was Vice Chancellor of

The <span class="term-highlighted">Student</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Solar</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Ambassador</span> Workshop, the seed concept of Gandhi Global <span class="term-highlighted">Solar</span> Yatra, is aimed at sensitizing the young generation. At the event, over 1,000 <span class="term-highlighted">students</span> from 13 schools were given hands on training on how to assemble a <span class="term-highlighted">solar</span> study lamp. <span class="term-highlighted">Students</span> also took a pledge of non-violence towards environment.<br />

how versatile <span class="term-highlighted">solar</span> PV has grown
in today’s world.<o:p></o:p></div>

 The <span class="term-highlighted">Student</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Solar</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Ambassadors</span> were accommodated to their
respective training classrooms which acted as hubs of disseminating the
knowledge and skills from the trainers to their trainees. The Volunteers from
ASCE and maintenance staff help the trainer in 45 classrooms in university
building for distribution of kids, projectors and PA system
arrangements   <o:p></o:p></div>
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12.0pt;"> The valedictory function was held in a
massive auditorium and the venue was filled with light from thousand <span class="term-highlighted">solar</span> lamps lights and joyful faces of SSA.
Thousand lamps were jiggled in the tiny hands, which was glorious spectacle to
witness and the guests of honor were truly awe-struck and were convinced that
the new generation was the pure and bright light of hope for the betterment of
the world.  The participants, school   , teachers and parents
were really very happy and satisfied that they have indulged themselves in this
global event SSA -2019, which is for a social cause.  Feedbacks from the
headmasters, teachers and <span class="term-highlighted">students</span> were
confirmed about their real understanding of the present condition of our planet
and the dangers of global warming. Further, they expressed about their
gratitude and enhanced confidence level towards the mitigation of climate
change. They all together assured to strive for improving sustainability
through non-violence towards the environment with a group pledge. Dr. R.
Senthil expressed vote of thanks to each and everyone involved directly and
indirectly to make this event successful and most importantly to the confident
younger minds to become real <span class="term-highlighted">Student</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Solar</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Ambassadors</span> of
our nation. The great SSA 2019 event concluded with National Anthem at 5.00 pm
and <span class="term-highlighted">Student</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Solar</span> <span class="term-highlighted">Ambassadors</span> dispersed

have been hearing from every part of the world. There have been a lot of campaigns;
awareness programs happening in our society and making others aware regarding these
issues are highly required. As per the suggestion given by the vice chancellor
DR. Sancheti , SRM IST School of management has got a chance to conduct a RALLY
to spread the awareness of “Plastic Ban”. The Rally was conducted to make
others aware to eliminate the usage of plastic and dispose plastic waste. There
were a total of 180 students along with the faculty members. The rally covered
almost 1.5 km of the campus and students from various other departments were
also given awareness. </span></div>

plastic usage and how it can be replaced by other recyclable products. Then,
the students also collected plastic waste all-round the campus and also
encouraged the shopkeepers inside the campus to use only bio degradable
plastic. There were some initiative’s that was taken immediately that added
light to the purpose of our rally. Though there are a lot of initiative’s taken
by the government regarding the same, it’s our responsibility to show our
participation in it. We are looking forward to similar opportunities to bring
in such awareness for the betterment of the society. We also thank our top
