<p> The department of Food Process Engineering, SRMIST, KTR and <b>Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-SRMIST</b> conducted an Entrepreneurship Development Program on Processed Marine and Oilseed based Food Products to Empower Chengalpattu District Self Help Group Women, Tamil Nadu, In association with SANVIHA FOODTECH SOLUTION CHENNAI on the dates 16th and 17th of December 2022. The program was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Anjur village, Chengalpattu. Food Process Engg, SRM IST. </b></p><p>It was followed by presidential address was by<b> Dr. V. Thirumurugan Associate Director (CL) and UBA Nodal officer.</b> He has mentioned about the schemes which SRM IST is running through Village adaption programme in the Chengalpattu (Dt.) </p><p>Inaugural address was given by <b>Mr. Senthil Kumar, Deputy Director, MSME DFO, Chennai. </b>He explained about the Central Government and State Government schemes available for SHG to start a business. </p><p>A key note address was delivered by <b>Mr. S. Arul, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Collectorate Compound, Chengalpattu (Dt)</b> explained about the specific scheme as Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) which is most relevant to the EDP.</p><p>Mr. P. Murugesan CEO, Sanviha Foodtech Solution, Chennai elaborated on the topic “Food Product Marketing” based on his two decades experience in the food industries at different capacities.</p><p>Dr. G. Nagamaniammai Associate Professor, Dept. Food Process Engg, SRM IST delivered a detailed note on the topic mandatory FSSAI regulatory aspects for Food Products to be followed new Food Business Operators starting from FSSAI registration and other protocols in detail.</p><p>Followed by Dr. P. Gurumoorthi Associate Professor, HoD (I/c), Dept. Food Process Engg, SRM IST gave a detailed information about Labelling of food products based on the requirements of FSSAI. He briefed about the label declaration, nutritional information to be followed while selling packed food products.</p><p>The participants was fortunate to interact with successful Herbal product Entrepreneur Mr. Ashok and Mr. Roshan, CEO, Zeromeat a start - up.  </p><p>Today the EDP was conclude with knowledge gaining starting from Food business idea, marketing, Government schemes, regulatory aspects. Tomorrow the same set of SHG women will be given hands on training at Department of Food process Engineering by Dr. G. Nagamaniammai and Mr. P. Murugesan on processed Marine products and Oil seed based products development.</p>

In his inaugural speech, he put forth the Mahatma Gandhiji’s vision on the importance of cleanliness of the country. As a citizen of the country everyone has the responsibility of keeping the streets and the public places clean. Eminent scientist sees a greater role for educational institutions

<p>Educational institutions have a greater role to play in the process of nation building, said Chancellor of Homi Bhabha National Institute Dr. Anil Kakodkar. He was addressing the students during the inauguration of 16th edition of national level techno-management fest 'Aaruush' at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) premises at Kattankulathur near Chennai today. He was the chief guest at the inauguration of Aaruush.</p><p>Techno-Management Fest will be conducted for a period of four days, starting from 27 October (Thursday) it will go on till 30 October (Sunday). Dr. Anil said while institutions for higher learning undertake their regular role of promoting education, they can play a prominent role in ushering in spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship among the students.</p><p>The four day fest aims to cater to an audience from all over the country and has activities like address by eminent personalities, workshops, entrepreneurial summits, industrial conclave, unconference, proshows and expos. The alumni of that institution have made contributions that are worth noting, said Dr Anil. Alumni of that institution have come up with innovations (products), their entrepreneurial ventures generate a revenue of 2.9 trillion dollars which is quite near to the GDP of our nation, he reminded.</p><p>'Similar measures could be undertaken in India, he said and reminded, that our country is home to great institutions and even if small percent of them undertake such activities we can achieve wonders.'</p><p>Speaking about Aaruush, Dr Anil said there is a great scope for activities like them. It is happy to see fests like these being conducted at the institutions as they have rich prospects for promoting entrepreneurship, innovation among the students which may lead to great business ventures in the future.</p><p>Eminent scientist also spoke about having the humane application of science. Progess of technology may make some very powerful, there may be room for exploitation using technology. There should be little scope for that, stress should be on humane use of science and technology.</p><p>Founder chancellor of SRMIST Dr T R Paarivendhar stressed for a greater role for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. Focus should be on learning great concepts and turning them into sustainable ventures.</p><p>Events like Aaruush have good prospects of kindling the spirit of entrepreneurship and the desire to come up with something new. Kamakoti, stressed the need for saving power, enabling access to technology at an</p><p>affordable cost, and serving the country effectively.</p><p>He said, “We are moving towards the stage where cyber-physical systems are used. This era is called</p><p>Industry 4.0. Hence being a computer scientist alone will not suffice.”</p><p>He added that the Department of Science and Technology in the Government of India has designated</p><p>25–27 sectors for development, close monitoring, and deployment in various fields.</p><p>“We have evolved from Mechanization, water power, steam power; mass production, assembly line,</p><p>electricity; computer and automation to Cyber-physical systems. The success of this Industry 4.0 will</p><p>depend on how well we can integrate technology into five priority sectors – namely Management,</p><p>Agriculture, Health Care, Fintech, and Space technology”.</p><p>Emphasizing on the role of Physicians – Scientists, he said, “They are the driving force behind the</p><p>understanding of diseases, and the development of therapies, devices, and technologies. Roughly 60-</p><p>70% of FDA approvals, and policy guidelines that dictate a patient’s diagnosis, treatment, and recovery</p><p>time have been influenced by them. The links between sugar and diabetes, smoking and cancer, etc.</p><p>may not have been proven without physician-scientists.”</p><p>He also mentioned the exciting solutions provided by the start-ups and their need in realising the net-</p><p>zero Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also spoke on the importance of the Aarogya Setu app that provided</p><p>awareness during the pandemic through cloud processing. Thirunavukkarasar said that Dr. Paarivendhar frequently offers many</p><p>welfare measures to the students to uplift their lives. “He excels in the field of politics and</p><p>education. Contribution of pharmacists to society remains hidden: Director, Drugs Control Department

<p>Kattankulathur, September 26:</p><p>“Dispensing medicines is not just an art but a service to the community. Pharmacists play a vital role of guiding the patients,” said P V Vijayalakshmi, Director, Drugs Control Department, Tamil Nadu government, while addressing the students of SRM College of Pharmacy to mark the world pharmacist day on Monday.</p><p> </p><p>The event with the theme - pharmacist united in action for a healthier world - was celebrated to create awareness about the role of pharmacists in the society. “Contribution of pharmacists to society remains hidden. Besides guiding the patients in dispensing medicines, they play a key role in clinical trials, research and development, teaching and regulation and enforcement,” added Vijayalakshmi.</p><p> </p><p>“At the peak of the pandemic, when hospitals could not accommodate the patients, pharmacists rose to the crisis by stocking up the necessary medication, providing information on medicines and healthcare centers to the patients. They are the unsung heroes,” said R Nandakummar, Director, Communications, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST).</p><p> </p><p>“Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare professionals for citizens in rural belts. With the right responsibilities, pharmacists can ensure the delivery of safe medical care and reduce adverse medication-related harm events among the patients,” Nandakummar added, while congratulating the SRM College of Pharmacy for ranking 12th in the NIRF Ranking 2022.</p><p> </p><p>Delivering the presidential address, Dr Lt Col A Ravikumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, SRMIST said, “ India proved it to the world by developing a drug for COVID-19. It was attended by 85 people including teachers, students, maintenance staff and Bharathidasan Green Foundation members also participated. SRM Institute of Science and technology,Kattankulathur , has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tamilnadu Apex skill development Center (TNASDC)Chennai.                             
 As per the MoU, both institutes share the available facilities for to provide skill development training to students, faculty members . As per MOU both the institutes provide skill development & training and employability to unemployed students in UBA-SRM adopted village areas.
