SRM varsity honours ISRO chief with Doctor of Science
Chennai: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Radhakrishnan was today conferred the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by the SRM University in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of space technology.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar conferred the Doctorate at the fifth convocation of the SRM University at its campus in suburban Kattankulathur in the presence of its Chancellor T. R. Pachamuthu and Vice-Chancellor P. Sathyanarayanan.
The honour was also in recognition of his vision, dedication and devotion, the citation said.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Radhakrishnan said with the rapid advancements made by India in the field of space technology, including the launch of Chandrayaan-1, which detected presence of water on the lunar surface, offers immense potential and exhorted the students to take up space science as their career.
He also recalled the tie-up between ISRO and SRM University for developing a nano satellite, which would be sent into orbit by a PSLV vehicle of the ISRO.
