economy. Every year thousand tons of waste reach into the coast and pollute the
environment. It needs to conserve and protect the coastal environment,
September 21, 2019 observed as International Coastal Cleanup day. The Swatchh
Bharat Abhiyan of Government of India aspires for cleaner India; under this
scheme, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Katankulathur organized
coastal cleanup program at Kovalam beach, Kanchipuram district supported by
National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), MoES, Government of India being
one of the responsible agencies for “coastal Clean Sea Campaign of UN and nodel
agency for Marine Litter Program” of South Asian Co-operative Environmental
program (SACEP). </span><br />

this program SRM students have been collected about1.2 tons waste which has
been segregated into bio degradable and non-biodegradable waste then they
handed over to Kovalam Panchayat for further recycling and proper disposal. </span></div>

have been hearing from every part of the world. There have been a lot of campaigns;
awareness programs happening in our society and making others aware regarding these
issues are highly required. As per the suggestion given by the vice chancellor
DR. Sancheti , SRM IST School of management has got a chance to conduct a RALLY
to spread the awareness of “Plastic Ban”. The Rally was conducted to make
others aware to eliminate the usage of plastic and dispose plastic waste. There
were a total of 180 students along with the faculty members. The rally covered
almost 1.5 km of the campus and students from various other departments were
also given awareness. </span></div>

SRM CHANCELLOR Dr.PAARI VENDHER RELEASES BOOKS ON WASTE MANAGEMENT

Founder Chancellor of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Dr. T R Paarivendhar, MP released the Waste Management Books at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur campus recently.

The event was presided over by Dr. Vinit Vijay Dani from Mahatama Gandhi National Council of Rural Education. SRMIST is also planning to introduce an MBA in Waste Management and Social Entrepreneurship. The curriculum and syllabus for the course will soon be announced.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor said, “Our Prime Minister and the present government is very serious about management of waste. When we waste material then we should take the pain of managing it. We should be conscious about our acts and it needs to be taught to others. We are now in a situation where we have to teach the younger generation on waste segregation and management.”

MHRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal who was in the city recently conveyed his support and blessing for this MBA programme and the book launch event. </div><div><br /></div><div>He wished SRMIST the best wishes in their endeavor.

Present on the occasion were SRMIST’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Registrar Dr. N Sethuraman, Director (Management) Dr. Michael J Barnes, Joint Director (Research) Dr. SRS Prabhakaran ,Dr.V.Thirumurugan Associate Director(CL) and other faculty members of the Institution.

SRMIST Director (Management) Dr. Michael J Barnes said, “SRMIST can soon become a role model in waste management. The MBA in Waste Management is an AICTE approved syllabus and will be multidisciplinary. This is a relatively new field and there are over 17,000 job openings in the senior and management level in waste management.”</div>
